The second limited edition Swedish single malt whisky from the Spirit of Hven distillery, who plan to release five more whiskies in the Seven Stars series over the next five years. This expression is called Merak, named after one of the stars in Ursa Major constellation (AKA - the Big Dipper / AKA - the Plough).
To create this single malt, Spirit of Hven used a mix of American, French and Spanish oak casks to mature their Organic certified spirit. Only 25 casks were blended together, after which it was bottled by hand with no chill-filtration and numbered.
Candy apple and red fruit sweetness, followed by dark cherries, ginger and creamy vanilla. A drop of water unlocks some peaty smoke deep within.
Spiced up front, crushed black pepper and cinnamon joined by oily barley. It slowly turns sweet and juicy with a hint of citrus peels.
Smoke lasts and lasts on the finish.
A shining star of a dram, bright and warming. It certainly lives up to the high standards set by the Dubhe.
I bought a sample of this for my step dad,he was really impressed, and said he had never even thought of trying a whisky from Sweden. I will be purchasing a large bottle of this for him for X'mas now that I know he likes it.
Probably one of the nicest 'world' whiskies I've ever tasted. Not sure how it's become so complex in what is realistically a very, very short period of time. Bravo.
Sweden? superb dram, love it
Really warming, rich, and fruitful. The flavour is very complex and just keeps developing. Lightly peated and really smooth. Absolutely fantastic!
My Husband is the Whisky drinker, not me. He amuses himself by passing me whatever he has for me to sniff and taste and laughs at me screwing my face up, dry heaving and shuddering. This well and truly backfired this time! The most expensive one he has ever done this with but instead of screwing up my face and shuddering when it hit my tongue I rather liked it, a few minutes later I asked to try more just incase it was a fluke, at this point he told me how much it was for a bottle. After my 5th "try" he cut me off. Well, if he wants to buy a bottle I'm sure I could live with it!
