From the Swedish Spirit of Hven distillery comes Hvenus Rye Whisky! Blended from 42 Quercus Alba American oak casks that were matured for a minimum of six years, the mash bill consists of 78.6% rye, 11.9% wheat, 4.8% corn and 4.8% grain. This expression continues the astrological theme, as the planet Venus is associated with copper, a fairly essential material for the whisky still.
Vanilla at the fore, with a slight pepper spiciness, freshly cut grass and a little menthol.
Smooth, strong vanilla notes, dark berries and toffee, fading into malty notes, rich dark chocolate and sweet, floral lavender.
Mint returns alongside vanilla, with gentle sweet spices.
The tasting notes above are super accurate. Nicely balanced between spirit and wood, the rye really sings with both fruit to nose and taste, and a fabulous soft drying spice to finish. There a lot here for everyone to like. Will be buying again!
