Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is quite full. Notes of cut herbs and rubbed peppermint leaves. There are wood oils and a touch of bitumen, notes of cut grass and stemmy hay, a lit hay bale smoking gently as it catches. There is quite a lot of sherry with a dry vinosity. There are some notes of extinguished fire and coffee with an oily nuttiness. The palate is quite full and well-balanced. It is smooth and buttery as the notes of cut herbs and hay emerge with herbal notes, cereal tones and fennel. There are some vanilla fudge notes with the requisite sugariness, hints of malt and barley rise. The finish is long and full of malted barley.

Speyburn 25 Year Old Solera Cask Reviews

Smooth, but...

This is a classy, well aged and smooth number, but, there is something missing for me, and I don't know what it is. The sherry and herbal notes are there, it has a slightly spicy finish, and all very pleasing - just needs an extra something to make it an essential malt.
