This 10 year old single malt was a gold medal winner at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. A classic from the Speyburn distillery.
A fruity nose with hints of orange, mandarin and cooking apple. A touch of oak, peppermint and spice.
A light, gentle palate with soft malt, sweet, toasty barley with liquorice and dried herbs.
Just a touch of smoke trails off on the finish.
Easy to drink, perfect for sharing with friends.
This got me into scotch from bourbon. So refreshing poured over a couple rocks! Barley malt esters that harken to a good helles lager.
With floral notes and real cloudy lemonade on the nose..continues with a floral taste, nothing harsh, light and fresh with a slight rubbery finish..not much depth but an easy dram.
I can only presume our American cousins look for different things. ( other comments below) I’d seen a whisky guide book explaining that this was hard to locate in the UK as it was being aggressively sold in the U.S. So what do I think, as a UK purchaser.! Well, how you take it affects everything. Just on its own, (who would) it must be a little fierce, with water, it opens and mellows to allow soft and interesting flavours to develope. With ice, it is very easy going and perhaps doesn’t stand up to the temperature. At this price, I like it, a touch dryer than I prefer but certainly a change from my usual, so sampling for the first time, good, mellow flavours, I like the light colour, certainly better than paint stripper, presumably, as I’ve never felt the need to try that!
Light and honey sweet with a slight alcohol burn on the finish. Good value at under $30.
