This 10 year old single malt was a gold medal winner at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. A classic from the Speyburn distillery.
A fruity nose with hints of orange, mandarin and cooking apple. A touch of oak, peppermint and spice.
A light, gentle palate with soft malt, sweet, toasty barley with liquorice and dried herbs.
Just a touch of smoke trails off on the finish.
just purchased this single malt in the local ABC store in North Carolina! its truly excellent and a real deal at $29.9 US! Just having my second two fingers with a one rock!! very smooth! Will definitely purchase again if the price stays reasonable, so satisfying to buy a single for a good price these days!!!! Great job Speyside!!!!
Wow
Apparently there are two types of speyburn 10-year old there is the Highland malt scotch bottles at 43 ABV and the speyside single malt scotch bottles at 40 ABV. I've had both and I' m currently sipping on the speyside 40% ABV. Both are available at Total Wine for $32. The speyside version has a perfume of lemon and citrus zest. Subtle notes of honey and Orange Blossom as well. The taste of sugary almost like candy corn not very oily no Pete but typical speyside single malt. I find it to be a gentle dram and a very pleasant sipping whiskey and I do recommend that a few drops of water be added in order to bring out the lemon egest and more subtle Citrus flavors. Although the label claims that is aged in Bourbon and Sherry casks I can find no hint of sherry in either the nose or the pallet. All in all an excellent dram and wonderful sipping single malt.
Outstanding!
This used to be my got-to Scotch. A very nicely done Speyside. It used to bottled at 43% ABV, but is now 40% since Speyburn refreshed their packaging.
