Part of the Old Scout range from Smooth Ambler, this 10 year old bourbon is rye-rich, well-aged and an absolute treat for long, sunny evenings. Bottled at 50% ABV, you can bet your bottom dollar this little beauty will be something to savour.
The Smooth Ambler craft distillery in West Virginia is busy leaving their barrels of whiskey alone to mature. During this time, they have scouted out whiskey they admire and created a curated selection, dubbed Old Scout.
"one of the softest deliveries at this strength I have encountered for a good while... A spicy buzz rumbles and forms the backdrop to the slowest possible fade of the delivery; one of the most delicate and sophisticated bourbons of the year"- Jim Murray (95.5 Points)
Nose: Familiar cane sugar notes from the 7 year, but this is a touch more laid back and creamier on the nose.
Palate: Light caramels and wood spices with an enjoyable interplay between rye and corn.
Finish: Smooth and long with some chopped red chilli but without the same intense spiciness of the 7 year old.
Overall: Another tremendous Bourbon bottling from Smooth Ambler with plenty of rye influence, the slightly more refined older sibling.

Absolutely massive nose, palate and richness of finish in this whiskey. If there was one negative to it, it'd be that it's got so much flavour (dissolved fusel oils) that it actually throws a haze if you make a cocktail with it. The ones who know, though, will be delighted by this.

I have been drinking bourbon for longer than I would like to admit. I have tried all of those so called "craft" bourbons our there, and I can say without a doubt that this is the best I have ever tried(not including the pappy van Winkle line)Smooth ambler leads a no nonsense company that is impressive to say the least. Even though this is just a bottling from another distillary, it is without a doubt the best affordable whiskey I have had. The age doesn't play as big of a role as one would think, but you can still taste the oak notes here. It has a creamy mouth feel with a wonderful, long lasting finish. It is peppery, yet smooth and complex. What makes this so special is the fact that each batch is a one of a kind. One bottle will not be the same as the next. One of the best out there, and at such a nice price there isn't another bottle I could recommend, at least not in terms of bourbon
