Sliabh Liag Distillers has shown its smoky side with this Irish blend, dubbed The Legendary Dark Silkie! Taking inspiration from 19th century Donegal whiskey, a triple distilled peated single malt is at the core of this expression, peated to about 22ppm and matured in sherry casks. It's then blended with a bourbon-matured single malt as well as a grain whiskey having been rested in virgin oak. The result? A fruity, subtly smoky and dry bottling which is sure to convert Irish whiskey lovers to a hint of peat!
Orchard fruit sweetness veiled by dry smoke, cigar box and spicy oak.
Salted dark chocolate, with oaky vanilla, fresh tobacco and waves of more drying smoke.
Toasted nuts and sweet malt, with gentle smoke in the background.
This is Laphroaig with honey! Gentle peated smoky warmth. Not for every day but perfect for cold wet long dark winter evenings. Puts many an Islay whisky in the shade.
I'm a member of TSMWS. Just back from an Ireland road trip, landing in Donegal. This dram just blew me away. Never heard of it. Got home & a bottle was ordered. I'm sitting with my 2nd dram. Had my first last night. This will be rationed. I could get greedy otherwise. Loving the range of tastes.
It’s smooth on the palate and great flavour Unusually Smokey for a blended Irish whiskey with a flavours of tobacco ,apple and warm bread Got this as a gift and heading tomorrow to buy a couple of bottles ! DT ( Dublin )
I chose this as I am new to Peated Whiskey and didn't want anything too peaty to start off with. This hits the spot. Just the right amount of peatiness and not too smokey either. I think it is probably quite smooth for a peated whiskey, although at the moment I have nothing to compare it with. I think I will try a Single Malt Peated next. Although, this is a lovely blend, I do like my Single Malts.
Excellent smooth blend nice a mild and mellow whiskey not an overpowering smokey peated flavour, well worth it.
