    Slane Irish Whiskey

Slane Castle is one of Ireland’s most famous locations, known for its rich history and huge gigs featuring some of the biggest musical acts of all time, such as The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Queen, U2, Bob Dylan, and David Bowie. The site just outside Dublin is also home to a distillery, where the family of the castle’s owner Earl of Mountcharles makes Slane Irish Whiskey. This triple distilled blend of single malt and single grain whiskeys which are divided and matured in no less than three casks: virgin oak casks, seasoned casks (which previously contained Tennessee whiskey and bourbon), and oloroso sherry casks. These individual blends are then married together before being bottled, with that mellow, sweet, and approachable profile so often associated with Irish whiskey.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Sweet oak and toasted barley at first, with layers of caramel and ginger developing later on.

    Palate

Victoria Sponge Cake with plenty of jam and cream in the middle. A touch of butterscotch.

    Finish

More toasty notes linger on the finish.

    Amazing value!

Bought this for St. Patrick's day with low expectations because it's so cheap and I was very pleasantly surprised.I usually drink Scotch and haven't really explored the Irish whiskies much but so far this is my favorite. It's incredibly smooth with notes of raisins, cream, and toasted oak. I have Redbreast 12 right now as well which is very good but to me this is a little better and it's quite a bit cheaper. Definitely found my new go to Irish whisky here. Cheers! The Sugarbear

    Glad I bought it.

Such a nice surprise! It won’t be confused with the pricy drinks, but it’s a solid alternative to the “run of the mill “ ones.

    Best whiskey ever!

My Dad has been drinking Irish whiskey and scotch whisky for over 40 years. He has tried them all from the cheap and cheerful to the extremely pricey. Took a punt on this since I had never heard of it and he said it the best he has ever tasted - high praise indeed! About to buy another three bottles for Xmas presents.

Wonderful step up from the big brands

When you're ready to step up from the entry level/big brands (entry level Jameson or Bushmills) I highly recommend this. Splash a small bit of water on top, or drink it straight. Appreciate the different flavors and let this introductory sipping whiskey melt in your mouth. I can find this in my NH State (northeast U.S.) liquor store for under $30 generally (translates currently to ~24 Euros or ~22 Pounds). While I haven't tried more expensive whiskeys than this (say Powers, Green Spot or Redbreast), I admit I am tempted to just stay here as it is a great taste value.
