Aaaaaand what do we have here then? It's another batch of brilliance from the ampersand clan! A senior member of the Seaweed & Aeons family, this heavily peated Highlander spent 18 years maturing before it was bottled up at cask strength – a robust 54.7% ABV. A generous portion of the whisky is sherry cask matured, imparting decadent layers of poached stone fruits and candied nuts to the dense, bold peat smoke and meaty malt at its core.
Warm tar and earthy bonfire ash lead the way, with burnt biscuits and juicy grilled stone fruits. Polished oak and hints of anise follow, with woody spice, leathery oak, and vanilla in tow.
Dense layers of charcoal, coffee grounds, and cacao, with peppery notes of barbecued meat, herbaceous peat, and smoked sea salt joined by sweet, sherried fruit.
A glorious array of peat smoke and sherried oak, with bonfire embers, burnt seaweed, sticky dates, vanilla shortbread, and grilled peach.
I did a tasting of this on my YouTube channel, I don't think I did it justice. Some whiskies come in sweet at first then develop new flavours in different parts of your mouth. This comes in Everything Everywhere All at once! So, I'm afraid it's beyond my capability to describe it. I can say that it is very good indeed.
Full of flavour. The sweet sherry notes and the delicious natural smoke is superb. Lots of depth. You can almost taste the sweet smell of burning heather. The extra abv gives it a spicy fire. 5/5
Full of Sherry notes and smoke. Good value for an 18 year old.
