This right here is a 10-year-old single malt from an undisclosed distillery on Islay, with 25% of it having been finished in first-fill oloroso sherry casks, and bestowed the decidedly descriptive name Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire. If those four words (and three ampersands) aren't quite enough of an explanation of what this expression is all about, here are a few more: stripped-back, smoky, complex, a bit sherried, balanced, coastal. Yeah, that should do it. Great for people who love uncompromising Islay whisky and sans-serif fonts.
Rich, powerful sherry with a well-integrated core of peat. Solid.
Well-balanced but extremely forceful on delivery. The sherry makes itself known in a really good way.
Red apple sweetness gives way to oaken-vanilla goodness and fades elegantly into the embers of a chargrilled well-aged steak.
A thoroughly impressive dram. One would be forgiven for mistaking it for an OB with another 5 years of age on it.

I bought this as it is evidently popular with Master of Malts customers and I see exactly why. The label talks about "balance" and the balance between the peat and the sherry wood is perfect for my palate. If you are looking for a peat bomb or for great complexity, you might be disappointed but at the price it's as good an example of a sherried Islay as I've found in years. I must have enjoyed it as all disappeared in 8 days and usually a bottle of whisky blasts me a fortnight.
Good
Forgetting the competitive price, this is an extremely good whisky in its own right. Now considering the price, its outstanding.
Loved this and so did my 87 yo father.... a tasting on opening lasted into the evening..
I bought this after being recommended from the Laphroaig Quarter cask. Bought this for a peaty whiskey tasting group - not a single person liked it and several couldn't even finish it. Tastes like Laphroaig water down with dirty swamp water. All the TCP and none of the flavour. If you want an Islay for its peat, but without any accompanying taste or complexity 5/5 would recommend...
