The inaugural whisky from New Zealand distillers, Scapegrace. First in a line of limited releases in the run up to the anticipated core range from the distillery, Rise is made using New Zealand laureate barley and aged for five years in virgin French oak casks. Non-chill filtered and naturally coloured, 4,548 bottles were produced.
Plenty of oaky spice and vanilla, with gingersnap biscuits.
Crumbly hazelnut crostata, with allspice, pepper, and drizzles of caramel.
Nuttiness and warm spices.
I’ve collected the first four of these and had high hopes, thinking they might be worth something in the future. However, the first one was simply horrible. It’s hard to describe but it tastes nothing like any other whisky. Almost an animal urine sort of vibe going on. Grim is the word.
