A 2015 addition to the Scapa range, the Skiren is a handsomely honey'd single malt Scotch whisky which has been distilled in the Scotch whisky industry's only remaining working Lomond Still! It was matured in first fill American oak casks, bringing plenty of vanilla and honey notes to the table. The name comes from the Old Norse word for "glittering bright skies"...
Runny honey and fresh cream. Hints of apple and a touch of anise. Maybe some crushed nuts, too...
Continued honey warmth and richness. Sparks of juicy pear and lemon peel. Touches of oak develop further on, bringing some balancing spice.
Medium length and a bit sweet, with oak lasting too.
Orcadian pearl.
I like it and would buy it again
Sink, into a comfortable chair and savour the warmth, the honeyed oats, the mellow sunlight and richness of this delicious malt. It is of course a matter of taste and Scapa Skiren is light, subtle and classy. Divine.
I am very disappointed with this whisky. Nosing is perfect reminds me of Old Pulteney 12 years. Taste is too thin and watery with developing harshness almost similar to 3 years old blends. Finish is unpleasant and bitter. Overall it is very overpriced NAS whisky and one of the worst single malts I have ever tasted. Sorry Scapa.
Think the mix of reviews of Skiren just go to highlight how personal a thing taste is. This is a firm favourite for me and cannot imagine for a second how it would ‘make my stomach churn.’ Such dramatic reviews. If you’re thinking about and are not sideburns I’d recommend trying it first if you can and failing that reading the description. It tastes exactly like that. If that’s your thing, go for it. If not, stay away. For me though, it’s top draw
