If you're a fan of straight rye whiskey, then you'll want to check out Sazerac Straight Rye. This delicious whiskey is made with rye grain and distilled in Kentucky. It's then aged for a minimum of two years in new, charred oak barrels.
Sazerac Straight Rye is named for the Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans, birthplace of the famous – and sublime – Sazerac cocktail. The Coffee House was acquired by Thomas H Handy, owner also of Peychaud’s Bitters. Originally, he sold bottles of the Sazerac cocktail, which was originally made with Cognac. Today, this glorious libation is produced at the Buffalo Trace distillery.
Sweet with spices and stem ginger in syrup. Orange zest, freshly ground black pepper and mixed peels.
Thick, spicy palate with notes of Seville orange marmalade and allspice. Peanut butter, toffee and barrel char develop later on.
An oily, spicy finish.
Does what it says on the bottle. Perfect for a Sazerac cocktail, which jt absolutely is. My favourite cocktail in fact. Outside of that it comes out as average. But DAMN it makes a good Sazerac.
How can anybody say anything bad about this rye? It’s just awesome! (I’m on my third dram right now ;-) For those low raters; just keep trying. You’ll develop some real taste sooner or later....
I can assure you all that this product has NOT been discontinued! Email received from Buffalo Trace indicates production is ongoing and strong as ever. I will say that it is quite difficult to find. I purchased the only two bottles my favorite retailer received and that was the first shipment since Spring of 2016! Befriend a reputable retailer, be patient and cross your fingers. I very much enjoy it neat or with a single large distilled water ice cube----pure sipping pleasure.
How so, discontinued.. Did they realy stop producing this?!
Difficult to find outsuide of Louisiana but a Superior Rye whiskey in its price range. Not to be confused with the 18 yr. and Thomas H. Handy versions but nonetheless, a great rye and a great value. Though easy to enjoy neat, this is excellent in Manhattans and Sazerac cocktails! If you can find it, buy it!
