A gently peated English single malt, Gulliver's 47 is distilled in Norfolk by The English Whisky Company using Concerto barley grown in East Anglia. The whisky has been aged in bourbon casks from Jim Beam, which haven't been broken down and rebuilt. The brand is inspired by Samuel Gulliver (a real person, rather than the fictional explorer), who explored the world in pursuit of wines, spirits and liqueurs, and brought them back to 18th century Britain. Gulliver's 47 was then launched eight generations later by his descendant Stuart Gulliver, carrying on the legacy. It's also bottled at 47% ABV, which is rather handy.
Cinnamon loaf, toasty oak, vanilla sponge and candied citrus with creamy malt and a whisper of peat smoke.
Apples and pears, slightly burnt toast and butter, more creamy vanilla and floral malt.
A gently spiced finish with lingering notes of bonfire smoke.
Maybe young but complete. Peat taste is intense and long and this is what I like ?
Tastes of new make spirit and not much else. Clearly very young. Sorry!
Don’t know how old this whisky is but the colour is very pale and suggests to me it has not been in the barrel long. There is a slight peaty flavour but little else that I could pick out. It lacks character and a personal identity.
Hello, I bought this when I was in Bath UK in Feb 2020. This Whisky has blown me away. It is the best single malt with heavy peat and the after swill is amazing. Well done. Cheers Deryck. Perth, Australia.
I love sipping on a couple of large drams of this whisky on a Sunday evening (am doing so right now!) ... it’s incredibly more-ish and seems to get better with every glass. Anyone who believes English whiskies can’t rival their Celtic competitors think again - I 100% recommend this blend to all whisky lovers. Have an open mind and get stuck in ... cheers! Rob Douglas
