Introduced in 2016, Lustau doubles down on the sherry influence all Redbreast fans love. This single pot still Irish whiskey was initially matured in a combination of American and European oak casks (like all Redbreasts) for 9 to 12 years, before being transferred over to first fill Oloroso sherry casks from Bodegas Lustau for a further year. Sublime stuff.
Rich and round with toasted almond, Curaçao orange peel studded with clove, stewed fruits and juicy sultanas.
Chewy milk chocolate and honey (almost a bit Crunchie-like) with allspice, walnut and poached plum depths.
Long with apple turnovers giving way to rich sherry and crushed cinnamon.
A very nice sherried redbreast. Rings the bell but not too loud, creamy mouthfeel and full of flavour. Enough said ??
Could be any old average blend. I tried it directly next to a couple of Teelings and the Red breast 12yr old. It come a very distant 4th. I would rather have a standard Jonny Walker RED label instead.
Prompt delivery well packaged. This whiskey is lovely.
Very much a fledgling Irish whiskey drinker, but can honestly say this bottle is a delight. The sherry is very present on the nose. Immediate alcohol warmth, but no burn. Vanilla, with biscuit-like quality. Gives way to dried fruit and spice. Long finish, it has an almost syrupy quality without being overly sweet.
At first I got the aroma of the Oloroso Sherry. Then, on tasting it was so smooth. At the end I got the after taste across the tongue of raisins. This is now my favourite single pot still Irish Whiskey.
