Redbreast Lustau Edition Bottling Note

A new expression in the Redbreast range, introduced in the latter half of 2016. This single pot still Irish whiskey was initially matured in a combination of American and European oak casks for 9 to 12 years, before being transferred over to first fill Oloroso Sherry casks from Bodegas Lustau for a year.

Redbreast 12 Year Old

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Toasted almond, Curaçao orange peel studded with clove and slowly growing notes of juicy sultanas.

Palate: Milk chocolate and honey (almost a bit Crunchie-like), cinnamon, walnut and poached plum.

Finish: Apple turnovers and crushed cinnamon.

Redbreast Lustau Edition Reviews

The go-to bottle

This is my go-to bottle. Absolutely spectacular in every way. It never disappoints. Ever.

I'm not sure this worked for them. It is good...but...

Nose: Fruit treated wood, a lick of varnish.

Palate: Lots of heavily sherried wooded spice. Sparkles on and on. Dark orange spikes.

After: Oaky but short.

Exciting flavour

This has a rich, sherried flavour, more interesting than the Redbreast 12. It benefits from sitting in the glass for a few minutes, otherwise it tastes too young. Nice and creamy! Very enjoyable.

my 'lady of the night'

A little stronger and a little younger and more brash perhaps, but still a fine version of the 12 yr old.
Sophisticated opening leads to a drier, less sweet finish, with a bit more fire in the belly... my 'lady of the night'

Irish no doubt

It wears it's Irish whiskeyness on it's sleeve, in a blind test you would have no doubt of the country of origin, and is the type of bottle uncle Patrick gets out at christmas, but why wait till then!! enjoy it's refined taste now !!

Great whiskey

Great whiskey. At first I tasted it by adding a little water. Tasted good but nothing special. Then the second time I enjoyed it neat. As like as chalk and cheese! 46% ABV and it's smooth, sweet and full of great flavors. This Robin is really high on my list.

Outstanding- buy it

Pretty close to classic Redbreast but a hint sweeter. Excellent bouquet, mouth feel superb, taste outstanding, smooth finish. Vanilla, cherry, wine notes. Fantastic Irish Whiskey.

A bit to young

At its price point I would have expected a far more refined whiskey. It is youthful and would have been well served with a few more years in the cask. We will enjoy the bottle but doubt buy another.

I Just opened the bottle last night and had a first glass. Very impressive. The attack is very sweet with sugar candy and fruity note. The sherry influence is quiet massive but still well balanced, and provide a very long aftertaste, with some spiceness and the sherry wood, almost no bitterness. Lovely stuff !
In couple weeks, the flavores will have developped in the bottle and I am confident it will just be awsome !

Decadent and rich

Quite lovely. The sherry finish does make it feel a tad heavy on the end, but I'm guessing that was the intention. I do miss that classic redbreast apple and pear, but it is really good.
