Redbreast is a rich, spicy single pot still Irish whiskey matured exclusively in first-fill Sherry and bourbon casks, and this fantastic 21 year old is no exception. A masterpiece of cask selection and blending, we absolutely love this older expression with its notes of tropical fruit, menthol and a touch of leather alongside all that mouth-filling goodness you find right across the range. Hats off to Billy Leighton and all those at Midleton!
Tropical pineapple (!) and crushed peanuts specifically, a bit like the combo you get on the outside of those soft cheese rings. Rich, rounded, spicy – prunes, quinces, a little deeply caramelised apple.
Mouth-filling and reassuring. A little menthol alongside the expected spiciness and some leather. On the tail there’s a touch of nectarine.
A little tangy fruit gives way to sweet and savoury barley notes.
Tremendous! Intricate and still full of life even though there’s a good proportion of whiskey older than 21 years old in there. Thoroughly enjoyable and one of the very best Irish whiskeys we've ever had the pleasure of tasting.
I’ve recently purchased Middleton Very rare, Barry Crockett, and all the Redbreasts. I’d have to say that my favorites are the RB 15 or the RB 21. Given that that RB 21 is 3.5x the price of the RB 15 in my town (Dallas, TX), I’d have to go for RB15 as the best. If money is no object, then maybe the RB 21, but really, the 15 is fantastic. I’d also recommend the 12 Cask Strength which when watered (or iced) down is truly a bargain. Hilarious bad review below on the 21... I love MoM reviews and love reading from fellow whiskey lovers. Very sorry that the lawyers at MoM say no shipping to TX, but we have our ways (he he).
this is among the best whiskies, that are relatively widely available, ever made. and i'm a peat-smoke fan. ignore the one bad review here - probably bad bottle, or the chap knows little about good whisky.
I've long been a fan of the 12 year. Treated myself to a bottle of this and it is definitely my favourite whiskey. It's so incredibly smooth even my non-whiskey drinking friends could appreciate it.
Lol at the troll below saying get Arran 10 instead of a 21 year old Irish whiskey. Some eegits in the world of whisky. Redbreast 21 is not only the finest Irish whiskey (slightly better than Barry Crockett), but one of the finest whiskies in the world.
