This bottle might be missing a box or have a torn label, but the liquid inside is all good.
This is batch two of single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Raasay Distillery (on the island which shares its name)! As with the first batch, it brings together the distillery's peated and unpeated spirit, and has been matured in an interesting combination of casks. This time, the casks used were first-fill rye whiskey, virgin Chinkapin oak, and first-fill Bordeaux red wine casks. Loads of character, loads of flavour, and even a snazzy bottle. An excellent release from a particularly exciting distillery!
A good helping of dry smoke, well-balanced by whiffs of red fruit (apples, cherries) and vanilla pod.
Subtly peppery, before notes of fresh cream, digestive biscuit, and buttered toast (very slightly burnt) arrive.
A flinty hint of peat smoke remains on the finish, with a touch of sultana.
