Released as part of a fleet of new expressions by Old Pulteney in mid 2018, this 18 year old single malt is drawn from a combination of bourbon and Spanish oak casks. Excellent stuff as ever from this Highland distillery.
Cinnamon-spiced cookie dough, mature oak, a very light touch of charcoal.
Dark chocolate and green apple make for a great juxtaposition of bitterness and sweetness, while waves of vanilla and rye bread sit in the background.
Citrus, sea salt and wet grass.
Have to agree with the last reviewer. Old Pulteney appear to be following pricing tips from some other distilleries who's prices skyrocketed in an attempt to premiumise the 'brand'. I don't care about a brand I care about good whisky. Old Pulteney is good whisky, but neither in this world or the next would I pay nearly £120 for an 18 year old. Plenty of other good whisky around for a lot less money. Won't be buying any more OP until they see sense about their pricing.
£112 for an 18 year old Old Pulteney. What is happening to scotch whisky pricing? The old 17 year old is still available at £76. I would seriously think about mopping up one or a few of the last remaining bottles. I’ll be quite curious to hear from someone who has tried this and the old 17yr. Only gave this 2.5 as the jury is out based on the £38 price hike on the old comparable bottle.
