The 12 year old expression from Old Pulteney released in mid-2018 was entirely aged in bourbon casks, resulting in a heavy influence of bourbon sweetness - which helps to balance the characteristic coastal salinity of the whisky. An excellent introduction to Old Pulteney (though well worth a look even if you've already been introduced).
Honeycomb, vanilla tablet, soft sawdust oakiness and oatcakes.
Chocolate peanuts, mint, citrus peels, maritime elements and white pepper.
Toffee, brine and lemon.
Old Pultney distillery has just gone cheap and commercial. 40%, chill filtered and E-150 colorant. This is just criminal. When will distilleries learn that integrity matters.
Initial aroma of brandy. Taste of salted chocolate. Thin mouth-feel, short finish. Interesting but not really my cup of whisky
Great value ….. lovely …..invested in a cask which is now 13 years old …. Looking forward to the tasting in a few years time …. Superb !!
By far my favourite malt of a great many tried. Great taste as ever. Called in at the distillery a couple of years ago. The four tumblers were a very nice surprise. I already have four of their smaller glasses.
