Port Ellen 30 Year Old 1983 (cask 671) Tantalus (Duncan Taylor)

Saying that Port Ellen whisky is sought-after is like saying jam is pretty good on toast - a massive understatement! The distillery on Islay closed in 1983, to the disappointment of many who loved their excellent expressions. However, Port Ellen is still delighting the world 30 years later, as every once in a while an old cask of their whisky is bottled and released, like this Tantalus bottling by Duncan Taylor.

Cask 671 of Port Ellen was distilled in 1983, the year the distillery was mothballed. This Tantalus release is housed in a hand-blown glass decanter which sits in an elegant Tantalus made from the cask that aged this Port Ellen single malt Scotch whisky for 30 years. Absolutely mental.
