Launched in 2015, the Port Askaig 100° Proof is a big, smoky single malt Scotch whisky from an undisclosed Islay distillery. This is bottled at 57.1% ABV - which is 100° Proof in a traditional system of alcohol content measurement (different from 100 proof, which you're much more likely to see on American bottlings).
Earthy smoke rises first, shortly followed by smoked meats, citrus peels and a heaped spoonful of brown sugar.
Zesty lemon and lime, paired with ground cumin, Smiths Bacon Fries and a touch of apple juice.
Rather long and enjoyably soot-y.

Even I'm not a peaty/smoky whisky lover, this is just a great product. Firstly I found sweet vanilla and toffee, then pear and some light dried fruits, maybe apricot. Taste ended via cacao to lovely and gently peat smoke finish that last quite long. Again one great product!
Nose: Cupcake batter, ripe fruit, sweet smoke. Hint of strawberry and/or fig-flavored tobacco. Definite mineraly/briny element. Taste: HEAVY peat bomb, mineral seaweed notes remain. Tastes very much like a Laphroaig. With water - softens the overtones, brings hint of cereality & tar; smoke remains. This has to be a Laphroaig-based dram. Solid stuff! I need to try again head to head vs. Machir Bay to see what's my favorite Islay malt so far.
One of the best, prisvärd!
An excellent and affordable example of this genre. Suggest that the macho try this cask strength with water (30-35%) to draw out the full flavour but beware it is dangerously drinkable and difficult to resist.
This is what i'm looking for full stop! Always liked Port Askaig bottlings, initially good value but lately somewhat pricey. Loved original "Cask Strength", and this is just as good. So sweet, oily & quoiffable, with that lovely buttery finish you get with really good Bourbon casks. For the price this is a total cracker! Keithieboy.
