Reviews for Old Pulteney 12 Year Old (Old Bottling)
A journey in a bottle
First out of the bottle it was honey on the nose and all salt/brine on the palate. After sitting in the glass five minutes I got a big hit of almonds to the snout and the saltiness had mellowed. Another reviewers comment about cat urine made me laugh. I get where they're coming from but a couple of minutes to sit and for me the acridity and mustiness had disappeared completely. I got that at first but fifteen minutes later it's fruit and nut bars. Twenty minutes in I'm getting butterscotch and spicy coated peanuts. Who knows where this is going or will end up? Like others have said, whisky is subjective, there's no right or wrong to what you perceive. Comments about bourbon casks are irrelevant, most are, get over it. More to the point is that a whisky that provokes such diverse reactions can't be a bad thing. Finding that one elusive dram that really floats your boat is what it's all about? I've just come back from Oban and a visit to the distillery and despite others positive comments that whisky did nothing for me despite associations and my love of the town and islands. That said, while there I was lucky enough to try a dram of distillers edition Tobermory, now that was really something memorable for me, salty like nothing I'd ever experienced, but unfortunately way out of my price range. Anyway, I was looking for something salty with some other complex flavours going on and I've definitely got all that with my gamble on Old Pulteney 12. Now experimenting with a drop of water, which isn't really my thing, and - wow - it's a dramatic difference, a whole new whisky again: sweeter, more delicate, quite beautiful in fact. Ok. enough. I'm sold. Money well spent in my humble opinion.

Perhaps the best value daily sipper...
Excellent price to performance ratio. Old Pulteney 12 offers complexity, quality, and top grade in an affordable and available package. Calling itself the Maritime Malt is no joke, this tastes like the ocean with tropical fruit notes and a great salty-sweet finish. A bargain at under $50 USD (I paid $40) this is an outstanding daily sipper.

Wow. Just wow
Could well have found my favourite malt. Sweet with a definite hint of fruit/raisins. Very salty which sounds bad but tastes GREAT.
Will always have a bottle of old puteney in from now on. High quality dram.

After being fairly new to the whisky scene I did my research and found old pulteney to be highly recommended and at a very reasonable price, After ordering the whisky I received an email verifying my purchase and delivery date, the delivery was estimated for the thursday of that week and I was pleasantly surprised when i received it two days early! The packaging was fantastic really high quality and that alone has drawn me back to this site. My first glass of the whisky was unlike any whisky I had tried before(not much experience in finer whiskies). Pulteney had a strong saltiness to it as others have stated, once the bottle had been opened and let to settle in the glass the saltiness died down massively and became a phenomenal and enjoyable drinking experience!!
