Vanilla, figs, fruit, honey...sherbert. Followed by hints of sea salt and caramel on the finish. Absolute staple in the cabinet.
The first bottle of this, I thought I had fallen in love with a new favorite. My first bottle was very balanced, juicy lemon drop, fresh salt air, good warmth with light smoke, and a lip smacking finish of Lemon ginger candy. The second bottle (which I bought at the same time as the first) however, had far too much oak and dryness, which overtook all the freshness and fruit. It tasted like someone had poured Bulleit Bourbon into my bottle. There was an overwhelming Chardonay and Bourbon oak dominating the profile. It was drinkable but there was none of that lovely wet, lemon, light smokey salt air sweetness as I made my way through the second batch. I really wanted that first experience bottle I had. It is hard to know what you are getting into with a purchase of this one, luck of the draw perhaps?
You must put water in it!! With water in its a great dram!
I will be the first to admit that I do not consider myself to be an expert when it comes to whiskey. I realize that there are many people who have a more experienced palate then me. However, I am a BIG fan of whiskey and have tried many different brands over the years. This is the one bottle I keep coming back to. Absolutely wonderful stuff. That marzipan note in the devolepment is stellar! Can't recommend it enough.
Ralfy - who knows his whisky - reckons this is the bees knees. Which I just don't get - perhaps the quality has dropped off a cliff in the last couple of years. Nose is of an 8 y/o (fairly raw whisky) with no cask influence whatsoever. Spirit fumes which you just don't expect from a 12yo single malt. Taste is better - but not by much - hot ginger, maybe satsuma. Perhaps there is some peat in there. No salt or 'maritime influences' (whatever they might be) Finish is mercifully short. Really this isn't good. Yes its cheap, but barely drinkable. Seriously I'd much prefer a glass of Teachers.
