While most distilleries use their Coffey stills only to make grain whisky, Nikka use the two Coffey stills at their Miyagikyo distillery to create malt whisky too. The Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky was introduced to their selection of expressions in 2014. Plenty rich and flavoursome, it's a wonderful addition to Nikka's fantastic range.
Having visited Japan and experienced a whiskey bar with our daughter who lives there, this stood out as one of the best.

Though the Coffey Grain is better iteration in my opinion, this is still an amazing whisky. Sweet, flavoursome, sort of like alcoholic banana split. Reminds me of the Redbreast Lustau for some reason.
Having savoured several Japanese whiskies in specialist bars from Tokyo to Kyoto, this was definitely one of the best. This is now my go to choice.
Cake spice and dusty cacao on the nose. An elegant palate of burnt caramel and nut oils. Ginger lingers and transitions into a medium finish of citrus.
