Using the two Coffey stills at the Miyagikyo distillery, which were imported from Scotland to Japan in 1963, Nikka have produced a number of single cask single grain whiskies from time to time over the years. This, however, is their larger release of wonderfully exotic grain whisky. Now in a 70cl bottle! Hooray!
Bourbon-like vanilla and corn notes with a herbal hint of chamomile.
Sweet, fruity flavours of melon, grapefruit and thick syrup, balanced by crunchy biscuits and fresh vanilla.
The corn notes, sweet and vibrant, last on the finish.
Fans of grain whisky should be pretty happy with this, as well as bourbon lovers.

I think it's up there with some of the better bourbons. That said, good bourbon can be had for $40 at cask strength, so the price is pretty high. Is there some rye or something else in here? Maybe, not sure; it's been a while since I've had a bourbon to compare against. Still, an interesting novelty.
Gorgeous!!
More cousins than sisters - Both the Coffey Grain and the Coffey Malt are wonderful. The real opportunity for an aficionado is to have both bottles. You can have a great celebration simply tasting both in the same evening. I always bring both bottles to the table when we have company!
