Using the two Coffey stills at the Miyagikyo distillery, which were imported from Scotland to Japan in 1963, Nikka have produced a number of single cask single grain whiskies from time to time over the years. This, however, is their larger release of wonderfully exotic grain whisky. Now in a 70cl bottle! Hooray!
Bourbon-like vanilla and corn notes with a herbal hint of chamomile.
Sweet, fruity flavours of melon, grapefruit and thick syrup, balanced by crunchy biscuits and fresh vanilla.
The corn notes, sweet and vibrant, last on the finish.
Fans of grain whisky should be pretty happy with this, as well as bourbon lovers.
An absolutely stunning whisky. A lovely vanilla nose with hints of coffee and dried fruits. Super length and very smooth too. Highly recommended.
Nikka Coffey grain - (On the nose) similar to Irish whiskey, nutmeg, vanilla, spice, alcohol (Palate) notes of advocaat, nutmeg, almond, reminds me of Irish whiskey, sweet notes from the corn, similar to bourbon in a way, spice
Strong vanilla at the beginning and quickly smooths out. Very balanced and pleasant for a 90 proof whiskey
Great whisky
As lovely a scent as any whisky you can name. Light, sweet, fruity flavour reminiscent of apricots, peach and melon. Very smooth (certainly compared with the harsher note of the equally delectable Coffey Malt) and more-ish. Nikka are producing first rate whiskies right now and this is no exception.
