Using the two Coffey stills at the Miyagikyo distillery, which were imported from Scotland to Japan in 1963, Nikka have produced a number of single cask single grain whiskies from time to time over the years. This, however, is their larger release of wonderfully exotic grain whisky. Now in a 70cl bottle! Hooray!
Bourbon-like vanilla and corn notes with a herbal hint of chamomile.
Sweet, fruity flavours of melon, grapefruit and thick syrup, balanced by crunchy biscuits and fresh vanilla.
The corn notes, sweet and vibrant, last on the finish.
Fans of grain whisky should be pretty happy with this, as well as bourbon lovers.
Is it me or does it smell like paint stripper? I've purchased lots of hakushu 12, yamazaki 12, hibiki 17, youichi 15 and a few other classics which I have enjoyed but this is pretty raw and i guess nasty so expected. Most bourbon smokes this too... I know not the same but bang for buck it doesnt deliver.
Agree with the bourbon comments. Usually a Speyside fan and tried this after being so impressed with their From the Barrel, it's excellent and different to any other whisky I've tried.
Complex, balanced, layered - an excellent one
Scent is of butterscotch and Christmas pudding. Tastes of honey and maple syrup with notes of caramel. Luxurious toffee chewy end. Great Japanese whisky.
Deliciously sweet on the first sip. Definitely reminiscent of a bourbon.
