Using the two Coffey stills at the Miyagikyo distillery, which were imported from Scotland to Japan in 1963, Nikka have produced a number of single cask single grain whiskies from time to time over the years. This, however, is their larger release of wonderfully exotic grain whisky. Now in a 70cl bottle! Hooray!
Bourbon-like vanilla and corn notes with a herbal hint of chamomile.
Sweet, fruity flavours of melon, grapefruit and thick syrup, balanced by crunchy biscuits and fresh vanilla.
The corn notes, sweet and vibrant, last on the finish.
Fans of grain whisky should be pretty happy with this, as well as bourbon lovers.

Golden hue colour veering into amber. After allowing the whisky a moment to settle slowly swirl it around the tumbler whilst gently nosing it. The nose offers ripe mango and banana with accents of honey and syrup. On the palate we have flavours of nectarine and pineapple then comes fudge and toffee. The finish is magnificent with notes of vanilla and oak omnipresent culminating in a indulgent yet clean flavour profile. Great Japanese whisky. Enjoy neat.

Very good and tasty
Had high expectations, albeit my first grain whisky. Massive initial fumes, like sticking your head over a vat. Gently, vanilla and unmistakably corn. Not as sweet as bourbon, fresher, more contemporary taste. Smooth, and spicy, with plenty of citrus. And for the briefest of moments, a Christmassy (?) taste that took me ages to work out and not completely convinced: wholegrain mustard? Let it breathe. The tiniest, most miniscule drop of water if you must, otherwise its easily lost. Will stay in the collection for a while I think. A decent one for impressing guests who liked to be impressed. Good looking bottle.
A little on the sweeter side, but smooth as heck
