The Nantou Distillery in central Taiwan is one of a number of distilleries owned by the state, but the only one making whisky. They began to produce whisky back in 2008, and now we can finally get a taste of their single malt! This particularly expression was aged in Sherry casks, resulting in classic chocolate-coated raisin notes.
Almond, sultana, red grapes and a few squares of fudge.
Oily barley, with clove, ginger, cinnamon and layers of milk chocolate and dried fruit.
Subtly spicy with fresh oak and more dried fruit.
This is one of the best I’ve ever had. Very full flavor with some heat. For my taste, this is just perfect.
Behind the intensity of alcohol, there is a great view of warm asian forest. The whiskey is full of vitality. It has lovely smell of green plum ,raw banana and slightly honey. And with classic sherry and oaky flavor. It is a great different when you compare it with the speyside single malt but it wont let you down. The weak point is short finish but it is a NAS, we cant be harsh.
A dangerously good whisky. It makes me want to keep drinking it. It has a nice light chocolate, nutty and dried fruit flavor. It is also floral like a Speyside/Highland single malt and its spicyness reminds me of bourbon. Easily the best NAS whisky i have ever tasted. This made me a believer that NAS whisky can be just as good as whiskies with an age statement. Imo it is as good as Glengoyne 12, Cragganmore 12 or Glenfarclas 12. It is also like an upgraded Aberlour 12. I got this for only 27 pounds though, great value for money for that price.
