Originally released as a travel retail exclusive, this Mortlach 14 Year Old has been nicknamed Alexander's Way in honour of the distillery's former owner, Alexander Cowie. Thanks to Alexander Cowie, Mortlach distils its spirit 2.81 times, a rather unique process known as ‘The Way’. So, there you have it, Alexander's Way. This expression has been matured for 14 years in refill bourbon and sherry casks, with oodles of creamy notes and jam packed full of spice.
Lemon zest alongside lemon curd, upside down apple cake, cinnamon sponge cake and vanilla cream with a hint of spice.
Loads of spices, with ginger, clove, nutmeg and white pepper, balanced by floral, dry tea, melted white chocolate with peaches and cream, sweet malt and earthy oak.
More warming ginger returns, with grapefruit peel and polished oak.
Disappointed in this. A nice strong taste. The spices are there and pleasant in the mouth. The pink grapefruit peel is a fair crack at the long aftertaste, this is where its not to my liking. Think 'peel' as it actually really does dry out your mouth. The taste is somewhere between pink grapefruit and an unpleasant, stale old water, papery card, finish. Ruined every mouthful.
