An elegant, stylish nose of marmalade, Crema Catalana (apologies, but it really is there), cocoa and malt. Plenty of vanilla and a sprinkling of winter spice (nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon) alongside a mouth-watering hint of aniseed.
Very malty, creamy delivery with a suggestion of berry fruit. Juicy toasted barley, cloves and butterscotch. Manuka honey, hot-buttered-toast and dried apricot develop.
Medium length, spicy oak and a hint of peppermint on the tail.
This is whisky to be enjoyed. According to the Monkey Shoulder website: "Some say it tastes just like riding bareback on the wild moors of Scotland with a flame-haired maiden on Christmas morning. Others agree it tastes like 007 wearing a tuxedo wetsuit."
I guess you get what you paid. Not Impressed

Not recommended at all. Cheap alcohol taste.
This is lovely, really enjoying it. My favourite recent bottle was a Jura Prophesy. But this was half the price but certainly not half the enjoyment.
Initially I came here to write a negative review and give this monkey no 'shoulder' to lean on, but after seeing many positive reviews I'm beginning to think I just had a bad bottle. Mine was flat of taste, with little going on except for the alcohol, making it more of a vodka experience to drink. I strongly suspect I had a bad bottle. Giving this whisky the benefit of the doubt, I'll try it again if someone else I know offers me a glass to compare it to the bottle I had.
