This American whiskey from Michter's Distiller in Louisville, Kentucky, is matured in barrels which had previously held bourbon. As such, this expression cannot be called bourbon, as bourbon needs to be matured in new American oak barrels - hence why it's called whiskey instead. Slightly confusing legal nomenclature aside, it's bloomin' marvellous!
Polished oak, buttery corn and a kick of caraway spiciness.
Wonderfully creamy on the palate, boasting notes of butterscotch, golden syrup and sultanas.
Corn appears again, with peach and apple alongside it.
This whisky is fantastic. I´m still a newbie, but from what I´ve tasted so far, this is overall the best one I tried. The nose is superb, with aroma of caramel, toffee, honey and vanilla. The palate is not as sweet and the finish is long. It gave some fight initially, but although not being the smoothest whisky I´ve ever tried, this is overall a superb offering for the price.
Super friendly with butterscotch and vanilla, a perfect gateway whiskey.
Wow, this stuff is seriously drinkable. Most of what you'd expect from a bourbon (like substance...) on the nose but goes down like easiest of easy drinking Irish whiskies. Superb.
This may just be my taste, but all I get from this whiskey is an overpowering punch of vanilla. It's very smooth, but I haven't been able to find any of the other notes my nose picks up on, which is very pleasant. If you like smooth, sweet, and vanilla, you'll probably love this. I just wanted less vanilla with a touch of spice...or anything else to balance it out.
Excellent nose with hints of Werther's candies and caramel. Amazing palate that confirms the notes caught by the nose followed by a delightful, smooth finish. Will be buying more and looking forward to trying the other whiskies in Michter's line-up!
