A single malt from Midleton, aged in bourbon barrels and enhanced with French limousin oak casks before being bottled for the Method and Madness range. Launched in 2017, we've already become fans of this range and are very excited to see what comes next.
As another reviewer said, a serious bargain at half-price in PA. However, I'd like more body, more depth of taste when given a splash of water. Might like it more on a hot summer day.
I couldn't resist picking up a bottle of this when I found it on clearance for half price in Pennsylvania. I primarily enjoy Scotch whisky, but will on occasion have an Irish whiskey and thought considering its original price I better grab a bottle before it sells out. I'm sure glad that I did, but after trying it I wish I had purchased at least one more back up bottle. This whiskey to me compares more to Scotch then some of the other Irish whiskeys that I've had. Orchard fruit, dried dark fruit and honeyed toffee on the nose. The palate opens with richly spiced malt and lingers with oaky nuttiness, biscuit and more honeyed toffee sweetness. The finish is quite nice with lots of warming spice and toffee coated orchard fruit. This whiskey is quite smooth as well and although there is no age statement mentioned on the bottle I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't older malts in here (15 year old perhaps?). The flavor profile to me is very reminiscent of a Highland and if you enjoy Scotch from that region or Scotch in general then this Irish Whiskey will blow you away and if you are in Pennsylvania like me then be sure to grab a bottle or two before they are all gone...cheers!
Rewarding dram, especially on the nose. - Fair price on MoMalt -
Summer in a glass (in the grass), trees and all - fairly oaky, chewy oak, bit of a bite to it. Oak nuts, hazelnuts. Orchard fruits. Soft, soft ginger spice. Cocoa bean, medium dark chocolate. Apples and pears. A mainly light, fresh style ~ 15 year old. The oakiness must be emphasized though.
NOSE : Bright crisp malt, lemon zest, apple peels, then malty vanilla biscuits. Walnut shells and pencil shavings (more or less goes away), sweet almonds. Oatmeal. Ice cream sandwiches they say - absolutely agree. Breadsticks, or slight 'meatiness', like in a Mortlach or a Craigellachie ( the first nosing out of the bottle I thought was distinctly Craigellachie-like ). ( Scotch there ). Fresh pear note. Lemon and kiwi peels (~). With aeration, green and red apples, also mint / peppermint. Faint notes of a very nice old and dry eau de cologne. ( Which I was not wearing at the time of nosing ). Gooseberries, red currants, lime, and tangerines. PALATE : White grapes, red apples, creamy. Vanilla pod. Sweet red berries like raspberries, strawberries, and cocktail cherries. Gooseberries and pomegranate. The empty glass noses distinctly waxy, like wax candles, biscuity, and a peat-like meatiness. All in all, a fairly youthful, light, summery single malt. Neck pour review. Happy Burns' Night ( whom I'm sure drank Irish Whiskey, ha ha ) !
