Can you name all of the distilleries on Islay? One of them was the source for this splendid single malt, selected by us to join our exclusive Master of Malt collection and bottles at natural cask strength. Distilled in July 2012, the whisky matured for a dozen years in a refill hogshead, yielding a total of 129 bottles when it was opened in August 2024.

A bold opening with thick, briny, tarry peat smoke. Stewed red fruits nestle beneath, alongside hints of hibiscus and rooibos tea. In time, notes of burnt custard, popcorn, stone fruits, and vanilla develop.
Robust, with dense notes of coal smoke and pungent, herbaceous peat, smoked peppercorns and salted caramel. Dried cranberry, grilled apricot, and beneath, some buttery vanilla shortbread.
Creamy oak, burnt butter, vibrant smoke, charred herbs, sourdough with salted butter, chocolate, and a touch of medicinal peat.

A secret Islay malt, this tasted absolutely amazing, one of the best, possibly caol ila, maybe, masses of taste sensation anchored to the classic islay flavors.Certain Xmas editions of Big Peat along with Port Askaig,I should have bought 2 bottles!
