With no age statement, and from a secret distillery - we can't tell you much about this one. However, we can tell you the result of all this secrecy is that we can buy and sell this whisky at very low prices, especially when you think about how good the spirit in the bottle is. We can't say anything for certain, but it's distinctly South Coast in style. Try for yourselves and post a comment if you want to guess where it's from...
Southern coast of Islay on the nose! Big on classic cool wood smoke with sweet honey sweetness. Hints of sticking plasters, grist and maybe lemon sherbet?
Rounded with dry notes of iodine amidst a beautiful butterscotch sweetness. Dry wood smoke, and hints of tarmac on a hot day, but gentle ones, mind.
Becomes more savoury, with just a touch of creosote, and all the usual suspects iodine, smoke etc. Very good indeed.
Nosed next to off-the-shelf 10 and 18 year old Laphroaigs the faint smell of liquorice that's noticeable in 10 and more present in 18 has turned very sweet in this one. It was impossible to mistake the glass containing this one for the standard expressions and the sweet candy-coated turn of that familiar smell would say this one's been sitting in an Oloroso cask for a part of its life, something that the dram's dark colour would also vouch for. This is a very good whiskey and of special interest to anyone looking for a twist on the familiar Laphroaig notes, but truth to be told at 40% it seems to have taken on a little more water than it should have.
Very nice - as an Islay lover, this is a dram worth adding to your collection
For the Islay enthusiast a great experience. Even for me as a beginner, I was quite impressed. My first guess would a Laphroaig, a very well-balanced one in fact.
Buckets of sweet smoke and a hint of citrus on the nose. Plenty of smoke & peat with a subtle lingering sweetness, fading to leave a nice dry finish. Great stuff, my money would probably be on Laphroaig (but not the ten year old). Could do with a little less colour to my taste.
The flavor is...polished...there's nothing rough at all about this, it is such a smooth dram. Big peat and sea/iodine on the nose. Sweet smoke linger forever on the palate. My best guess is a Laphroaig, much older than the ten (the color is deeper caramel gold). Fantastic.
