A Secret Irish Distillery 13 Year Old 2005 (Master of Malt)

We do love our Irish whiskey here at MoM Towers, so we're excited about this addition to our exclusive Master of Malt collection! It's an Irish single malt hailing from an undisclosed distillery, produced in 2005 and matured for 13 years in a bourbon barrel. It's brimming with layers of buttery pastry, apple, vanilla cream, and butterscotch. A release of 170 bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Buttery, with flaky pastry and soft, juicy peach leading to sourdough and creamy, malty notes of Horlicks, with a touch of sweet citrus beneath.

    Palate

Rich, sweet layers of silky butterscotch are bolstered by woody spice and warming ginger, while apple cake, tinned pineapple, and butter biscuits nestle beneath.

    Finish

The warming spices linger alongside toffee sponge cake, apple, milk bottle sweeties, vanilla cream, fruity tea, and cracked peppercorns.

Reviews for A Secret Irish Distillery 13 Year Old 2005 (Master of Malt)

    Too long in the barrel

Age doesn't always equal excellence. The perfect balance for a liquid can be short or decades, as the wood transforms the spirit. The trick is picking and bottling the liquid when you find that premium of balance. This spirit has sat too long, or not long enough. The tannins are overpowering and sharp edged, the spice, of which there is a load, is over toasted, out of balance. This doesn't have any of the traits of an Irish, the buttery, butterscotch biscuit, the lightness, sweet spicyness. All hammered down by the woody tannins. I've tried this neat, with ice and neat with various quantities of water, and those hard edges tannins always remain aggressively dominant. Sad to say I'm not a fan.
