Distilled at Mannochmore in September 2009, this single malt matured for 13 years, including a finish in an amontillado hogshead. The cask was opened by indie bottler Auld Goonsy's Malt, releasing a total of 295 cask-strength bottles in February 2023.
Sweet Madeira cake, orange peels, sultanas, ginger, and floral honey.
Chocolate and praline are joined by rich baking spices and stewed fruit, while juicy barley and vegetal oak rest in the depths.
Ginger and nutmeg, apricot jam, with a touch of clove, and earthy tea in tow.

I think that distilleries like Mannochmore and Glenlossie are too easily overlooked. Certainly, they're not exactly pretty to look at as you drive south from Elgin to Rothes. However, they can produce some rather fine Speyside-style drams to rival the nearby Linkwood and Longmorn. This 13yo Auld Goonsy bottling is a case in point. Once you get past the awful name and rather off-putting presentation, the whisky itself is excellent: it's cask strength, ncf and natural colour. Well worth a try.
