One of the fine offerings from Swedish distillery Mackmyra. This is their smoky, peaty expression, hence the name Svensk Rök, which means Swedish Smoke. It's unequivocally fragrant and rich, with hints of vanilla, oak and even juniper smoke wafting in.
Earthy peat, warm smoke, vanilla fudge and a whisper of citrus.
There's that bright juniper note! Sweet soot, and just a little more vanilla to give it a subtle sweet centre.
Plenty of oak and smoke last on the finish.
Ooh yes, fans of Islay whisky will want to have a taste of this unique whisky.
Great stuff from Sweden. Nice amount of smoke and overall smooth and great taste.
Delicious. Subtle flavors with a smooth finish.
Def an aniseed taste/finish - really nice some lovely smoke.
Amazing whisky, but very different than your usual peaty scotch offerings. This is more like juniper bonfire than peat. A little bit of licorice, deep oak and touch of pear. Extremely tasty, well made and unique - therefore misunderstood by many. If you like Kilchoman, this is going to be right up you alley.
I think that the negative reviews may be based on the initial arrival and made in haste.. but you need to give this some time and keep coming back to it. Initially the smoke seems sooty and the taste has little depth, but given time and a few more sips it becomes a bit more complex. It's like walking into a delicatessen with hanging black pepper and herb-covered salami, with fruity cheeses in the background! It's not pretending to be a peaty Islay. Well done the Swedes!
