Muddus is the first release in a series of small-batch whiskies from the Swedish distillery Mackmyra. The whisky is a marriage of spirit aged in a strange but sublime blend of casks, including raspberry wine casks (50% of the whisky aged in raspberry wine casks was then finished in rum casks), virgin American oak casks, and seasoned Cloudberry wine casks. The release was limited to just 3017 bottles.
Floral and full aroma with prominent spicy citrus notes. The longer the whisky is aired, the more vanilla and caramel become prominent, along with subtle notes of cloudberry and raspberry marmalade.
A warm mouthfeel where the flavor goes from oriental spices to sweet berries, both blue and red. The cloudberries land further back in the mouth and are complemented by caramel and vanilla, creating a complex flavor profile with multiple surprises.
The aftertaste is long and balanced. Hints of cloudberry, spicy heat, and fruity yuzu continue to linger, long after the whisky has been enjoyed.
