    Single Malt

    Mackmyra Brukswhisky

Mackmyra's core expression is a light Swedish whisky matured primarily in first fill bourbon barrels but also includes whisky aged in Sherry and Swedish oak casks too as well as some smokier malt, which all adds to the complexity.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Fresh, delicate fruit aromas with vanilla pods. Pine nuts, pine needles, raspberry bushes and mixed peels. Ryvita and Sesame Snaps.

    Palate

Vanilla cream, custard even and more fruit. Red berries, boiled sweets and rich, warming bourbon.

    Finish

Spicy oak and apple pie whilst remaining light and nimble.

    Overall

Tremendous easy-drinking single malt whisky from Sweden.

It was okay but no more.

Taste of bourbon and spice, very simple. Nose: honey, light raspberry

    A bit young...

Sharing the advent dram with the husband. My husband would rate lower saying this is just a level above moonshine (with a slight vanilla taste) as it has in his opinion an almost immature corn taste which he is sure is not the intent of the distillers. After letting it breathe a bit I am a bit kinder- can note a small bit of fruit but it is quite painful on the back end. Maybe another 6 years in a barrel might smooth this offering out.

    Bridge Whisky

I would call this a bridging whisky. Are you a fan of Irish Whisky? Then this is a great way to start moving toward Scotch. Are you a fan of Scotch? Then this is a great way to start moving toward Irish Whisky. However, it does neither very well. I enjoyed it for what it was, easy to drink, almost forgettable, very slight fruit and pine on the nose, with a smooth sweet mouth. Slight hints of spice, but not a lot, and then it just disappears. Final Note: I am doing the 2015 advent calendar. As a result, I get one drink at it to decide if I like it enough to buy more. Sometimes I need to drink something three or four times to make up my mind. Thus, my rating is based on a one-time drink experience.

    Nej

Very one-dimensional. Odd nose, with baked bread notes overwhelming any fruits. A drop of water brings the bakers yeast to the front even more. A bit of spice on the tongue, but nary a hint of vanilla. A bit of spice on the finish. Not my style -- second lowest score from my advent calendar.
