Macallan's Triple Cask range was launched in 2018, taking the place of the Fine Oak range. This is the entry level expression from the series, matured for 12 years and drawn from a combination of European sherry seasoned casks, American sherry seasoned casks and American ex-bourbon casks.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Gingerbread, vanilla essence, wafts of buttered toast and clotted-cream-topped scones.
Raisins, sultanas and stem ginger. Citrus begins to develop on the palate, with a touch of dark chocolate.
Subtle cedar and honey linger on the palate.
I admit first to a bias for big, peaty Islays. With that caveat on my point of view, I found this malt to very much to my liking despite the light flavor, Light early caramel (others said buttery peach - sort of the same) with a lovely long aftertaste fading to almonds. Why not a five? I would have liked more mid tongue punch, a bit bolder flavor overall. But worth the price.
There's nothing too aggressive nor too subtle about this dram. I found this to be a great embodiment of Speyside. If you're new to whisky or or just want to get something easy to drink then this is a very good option.
It’s what you would expect from a younger macallan, clotted cream and raisin overtones with a vanilla and peach finish. Doesn’t set the world alight like the more mature macallans, but still a very pleasant drinking experience.
Not what it used to be and disappointing! I got it in Nigeria for about $36 and thought I got a steal. I miss the Sherry sweetness. This lacks flavor. Yes, it's somewhat easy to drink, but not the same as double cask sherry only.
I just came back from a tasting session and the star of the show was Macallan 12 Tripple Cask. I was immediattely surprised from the light caracter of this whisky. Nothing left from the recognizable rich and rounded sherry bomb it once was. The signature dried fruits are now replaced by orchard fruits flavors, i guess caused by a high percentage of this whisky being aged in ex bourbon cask these days. Overall, a very dissapounting experience, also the price is double from what used tobe some 5-6 years ago.
