Another batch of Macallan single malt from That Boutique-y Whisky Company! The second batch to carry an age statement - a full 29 years on this occasion - the label once again features the distillery's curiously small stills... (In case you're in any doubt, they're not actually small at all!)
Batch 6 is a release of 293 bottles.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends, all adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels. The brand won Spirits Bottler of the Year at the 2023 Spirits Business Awards, and Blender of the Year went to Sam Simmons, captain of the Boutique-y clan who oversees every one of these releases.
Raspberry bushes, buttered scones, double cream and soft chamois leather.
Stewed red fruit with a little rhubarb supported by malt core. Great balance.
Long with fruity coffee notes.

I was hoping this would surpass the 25 year old, but it simply doesn't! Now don't get me wrong, this 29 year old expression is stunning, just no where near as deep, complex and rich as the previous 25 year old batch!
So many of these 'uber-aged-macallans' go over the hill and taste of nothing more than bovril and caramel. Not so here. This is rich, well-rounded, but still retains some spirit character.
Cracking stuff, and at the prices you'd pay for an OB, remarkably good value. I'm not going to race through this bottle, but I doubt it'll last long - it's just too good.
By the slightly lighter colour of this batch - it's an absolute barnstormer of a whisky. Massively sherried, with a lovely seam of Ranciosity running through it. Incredible stuff.
