Extraordinarily well-matured single malt Scotch whisky here from the Longmorn Distillery, released as part of Gordon & MacPhail's Private Collection - which is reserves for very special whiskies indeed. This one was distilled all the way back 1966, and filled into a single first-fill sherry butt to mature for many, many moons. In 2019, it was finally bottled up, with an outturn of 398 bottles.
Intense sweet fruitcake aromas align with brown sugar, sticky prunes, and candied citrus peel. Spice provides warmth with cinnamon and clove. Hints of vanilla come to the fore followed by forest fruits. A delicate oak smoke is present.
Sweet with bursts of pepper. Steeped dark fruits - blackberry and ripe cherries envelop warming spice leading to flavours of liquorice with dried tobacco and oak.
Long; mulled fruits and charred oak providing a subtle ash finish.
