Released to promote Longmorn as a super premium single malt maker, this edition replaced the previous 15 year old. The relaunch was certainly effective as a means to display the distillery's unique Speyside character, as this superb 16 year old was distilled using natural ingredients from the surrounding area, including local spring water, barley from Moray and peat from nearby sources. Just lovely.
Fresh and green. Notes of apple peel and bramley apple, hints of citrus and herbal notes. There are some notes of balsa wood, calvados and plenty of dry oaken tannins.
Rich and compact. Notes of lemon zest and a leafy greenness. A good level of tannins develops with a vinous character and spice. The oak is dry and full.
Long and dry with a zesty quality.
Nice whisky. Don't love it, but do appreciate it. Not my favourite.
Smells strongly; hazelnut, jam and citrus zest, almond, berries and cream, rose. Taste is oil heavy, big creamy oily nutty chewy caramel. Lasting nutty flavor
Awesome, finished my first bottle, had bought it over 10 yrs ago. Loved it. So smooth
This competed with bottles at our annual Scotch tasting that cost three times as much and still stood strong. I was impressed.
I loved the previous bottling but I think this 2016 one is even better. There are a lot of fruit flavors especially on the finish which has a nice oily texture. It has features like a great Balvenie but maybe even better. Very smooth drinking and I love the finish.
