    Loch Lomond 18 Year Old

This is an 18-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from the Loch Lomond distillery in the Highlands region. After spending 18 years maturing in three types of American oak cask, this expression has developed a complex flavour profile featuring red berries, mature oak, vegetal peat and runny honey. Loch Lomond are renowned for being able to produce a variety of styles at their distillery, including malts, grains and blends. Top stuff!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Old oak furniture and tobacco, supported by sweeter notes of honey'd cereal.

    Palate

Nutty brown bread with a thin layer of blackcurrant jam. Slight smokiness along the way.

    Finish

Lingering peat - not too strong, but easily noticeable.

Delightful whisky with depth of flavour

This is a lovely whisky that has a lot of flavour. There is an earthy hit on the nose and it isn't the most dynamic in that area but the flavour just continues to develop upon more drinking. It has depth of flavour with some almonds that combines with a sweetness to create a memory of marzipan, then some fruity notes on second sip that have a freshness and zing to them, and it opens up to some earthy flavours. Keep drinking and more caramel comes through in the taste that shows this whisky has depth. The smoke carries through to the finish, not an intense smoke like an Islay but a softer and more subtle expression. You also get that peat medicinal/mint effect as an after effect too. Water opens up more of the peat hit. I really really enjoyed this far more than I was expecting.

    A perfect highlander

Nose: Freshly cut oak, autumn barley fields Palate: Clear, the oak again, dark berries Finish: First notes of peat, memories of a tart apple, warming, clean An exceptional bottle.

Well matured, mingled sweet dried fruits and smoke

Nose was rather rich with notes of dried fruits, mainly raisins. There is a hint at the back of tobacco as well with those fruits. Coming through is sweet honey which balances it out nicely. This dram is matured in American Oak which is also the first note on the palate. Old wood oak which is then followed by a tart sensation of sweet jam or honey, fading into a gentle burn. Oak continues in the finish and the dried fruits from the nose re-appear, not so much raisin this time. Now mingled with spices, towards black pepper. The finish is medium long. Pleasant whisky to taste. I'd say it is the most dried fruit notes I've had in a dram. The sweet honey or jam that made a hint on the palate was enjoyable. There is peat in there but only for balance I feel. This will go very well with various cakes!

    Smoke, caramel, smooth

Lovely drop and even better with a few drops of water. I’m usually a Lagavulin only man but this is smooth, tasty, caramel and smoke - a real treat of a find whilst at a work event. So good I bought a bottle of the stuff!!
