Deerstalker
Scotland
Single Malt
A fabulous addition to the Wild Scotland Collection from indie bottler Deerstalker! Distilled at Loch Lomond in 2010, under the Croftengea name used for its peated expressions, this single malt was allowed to mature for 11 years in a single cask before being bottled. Now, we've not always been the best at correctly identifying our Scottish wildlife, but we're pretty confident that it's an otter on the label of this bottle right here.
Smoked malt and charred oak with wafts of poached peach and a drop of honey.
Peppery spice with grassy peat smoke, spiced orchard fruits with burnt sugar, and underlying traces of bonfire ash.
Toffee apples and burnt treacle mingle with just a touch of coastal salinity.
Even though it's a hefty 56.3% this is still drinkable neat, and is probably the better for it. Even a hint of water washes away the subtle flavours. I was hoping for more peat - and there is a touch, but 'cooking' Islays are better value. That said, it's not a bad dram. Just a bit pricey.
I love scotch and different types of whiskey. This is honestly one of the ones that I cannot drink. I tried it twice and straight from Scotland. Really wanted to leave a good review, but I can't unfortunately.
