Bon Hiver Speyside 10 Year Old

You mean Bon Iver, like the groovy, innovative, American folk musician? No, we don't, though we understand he does have a soft spot for a certain whisky-making region of Scotland...

Bon Hiver is a saying in Francais that means 'good winter', and this snuggly Speysider will certainly see to that. It's a super small batch marriage of Linkwood single malt, 30% drawn from a refill and 70% from a first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead (as cleverly displayed on the guitar pedal-themed back label... sadly not pictured). Bottled at 10 years old, the whisky is elegantly analogue, like a great album recorded live off the studio floor, direct to 2" reel-to-reel – no chill filtration here, so it might throw a bit of a haze in your glass. Think of it like surface noise on your favourite LP, it wouldn't FEEL as good without it.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Warm scones, yeasty bread dough, vanilla wafers, and porridge with golden syrup, backed by hints of banana bread, fresh apricot, and candied almonds. Cooked apples and pears, honeyed prunes, and milk chocolate join in time.

Palate

Rich notes of buttered malt loaf join creamy rusk biscuits, then brandy snaps and boiled sweeties arrive. Candied ginger brings warmth to the depths, with a tickle of nutmeg and bittersweet orange marmalade.

Finish

Syrupy sponge cake, hints of strawberry laces, and honeyed stone fruits bring balance to comforting layers of warming, woody spice.
