Wine Cask

The Lindores Abbey Distillery has added to its Casks of Lindores series with this superb single malt which has been exclusively aged in shaved, toasted, re-charred red wine barriques – otherwise known as "STR" casks, if you fancy sounding fancy. While the first release in the range focussed on bourbon casks and the vanilla-rich notes they impart, this edition shows off a fruit-forward style from Lindores Abbey, with notes of damson, raisin, and plum all playing their part.
Red plum, orange peel, liquorice, toffee, a hint of toasted oak.
Still brimming with rich red fruit notes, now with prune and damson. Honeyed malt and earthy spices give it some grounding.
Baking spice warmth, thick caramel, and dried fruit.

This is a fantastic dram. I bought one to keep and one to drink but ended up drinking both in the end as loved it so much.
Quite medicinal on the tongue, reminds me of childhood cough remedies mixed with chambord liqueurs. The nearly 50% ABV delivers a strong burn and evaporation in the mouth which is decently pleasant. Certainly no peat notes to speak of, my first ever Lindores, so an interesting experience overall
