Ledaig 10 Bottling Note

The Tobermory Distillery on the picturesque Isle of Mull isn't home to just unpeated whisky. It also makes superbly smoky single malt under the name of Ledaig (that name isn't simply a coincidence, by the way - Ledaig was one of the distillery's previous names!). Distilled using the same pot stills as the classic unpeated Tobermory expression, just with peated barley instead, the whisky boasts plumes of rich, earthy, almost medicinal smoke, with underlying fresh fruit and crushed spice notes. This particular expression ages for 10 years before bottled at the very specific strength of 46.3% ABV.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Quite light and well-balanced. There is a very soft peat with a gentle smoke. Notes of barley and malt extract, with walnut and pine oil and a hint of iodine, dried fruit and nuts.

Palate: Medium-bodied and quite rich. There are notes of spice and smoke gathering above the charred oak. The peat is quiet and dry with a touch of black pepper and earth.

Finish: Medium-length and slightly smoky with spice.

Ledaig 10 Year Old Reviews

Yummy, yummy Whisky.

A superb and well peated Whisky competing with some of the best from Islay, it definately tasted at it’s best when 50% of the bottle was completed.

An absolute gem

Firstly I need to say I am not a fan of peated whisky, I was given this as a gift.

Total peat on the nose, and therefore (me not a big pest fan) I was worried.

A few drops of water and the taste is totally different. Absolutely amazing and I think it has to be in my top 5 whisky’s. Great value for money too.

I love this whisky

Beautiful, just beautiful .

Very nice

A great whiskey from Islay! Who doesn't like peaty whiskeys, shouldn't even comment! It adds nothing of value!

Biscuity spices & nectarous smoke.

Biscuity spices, lightly dried fruit & nectarous smoke. This has a nice complexity & overall slightly less in your face than Islay versions. If you like Talisker 10yr, this one will compare.

Good but not great

It is a nice alternative to the Islay whiskies. First time I have bought Ledaig 10 in 2013. It was GREAT. Now it is GOOD.
I dont want to say I am disappointed with this whisky, but it has now definitely less smoke and it is coloured. Also it is fruitier and sweeter. Once again it is not a bad whisky by no means, but personally I would rather buy a bottle of
Caol Ila 12, Laphroaig 10 or even Scarabus or Ileach

Has to be in the stash

What an amazing expression, this is what a good peated whisky should be and what it should cost.
OK so I've not been sipping long but we all like differant things, my hope is this gets poor reviews and keeps the price down for us in the know 😊

Light and smoky

Enjoyable easy drinking stuff. Light and smoky. Lacks complexity but good value at less than forty quid.

Smokey and powerful

I got rich smoke with peat in my bottle. Spicy and not too sweet. Reminiscent of Talisker (next island north) if you ask me. I really like this. Just add a tablespoon of water to excite the flavours.

Very tasty, and ridiculously drinkable

Peated but rounded. This is a lovely balance of malt and smoke.
Much less phenolic and extreme than the Islays, and smoother and more rounded than Longrow, I'd say this is an easier introduction to peated whisky than the above, but also simply a lovely dram in and of itself.
